چکیده

Water quality control and the of contaminant spill in water particular are becoming a primary need today. Gradient descent sensitivity methods based on adjoint formulation have proved to be encouraging techniques this context for river channel flows. Taking into account that most channels rivers include junctions with other branches, objective study is explore technique network reconstruct upstream boundary condition convection-reaction equation. For purpose, one-dimensional shallow equations transport equation reactive solute considered. The formulated through gradient-descent supplied first-order iterative process. Both physical suitable internal conditions at junction numerically solved using finite volume upwind scheme. results reveal capable reconstructing inlet concentration an acceptable number iterations both steady state transient configurations downstream measurement location. It was also observed reconstruction tends less effective further away station from target.

Optimal Control of Open-Channel Flow Using Adjoint Sensitivity Analysis

An optimal flow control methodology based on adjoint sensitivity analysis for controlling nonlinear open channel flows with complex geometries is presented. The adjoint equations, derived from the nonlinear Saint-Venant equations, are generally capable of evaluating the time-dependent sensitivities with respect to a variety of control variables under complex flow conditions and cross-section sh...

Estimation of zeolite application effect on solute transport parameters at different soils using HYDRUS-1D model

ABSTRACT-Application of models for simulation of solute and pollutants transport in soil can reduce time and costs for remediation process. HYDRUS-1D model was developed to simulate the one–dimensional flow of soil water, heat, solute and viruses in variably saturated–unsaturated porous media. The objective of this investigation is to determine the solute transport parameters in disturbed soil ...

Adjoint modeling for atmospheric pollution process sensitivity at regional scale

[1] During the summer 1998, a strong pollution event was documented over Paris as part of the Etude et Simulation de la Qualité de l’air en Ile-de-France (ESQUIF) project (second intensive observation period (IOP2)). From 7 to 9 August 1998 the pollution event changes from a well-marked ozone plume issued from Paris to a more general pollution over the whole Ile-de-France region. Using a three-...

Control of Canal Flow by Adjoint Sensitivity Method

A new method for control of unsteady flow in open channels is presented. Control is achieved using an iterative approach, the Broyden, Fletcher, Goldfarb, and Shanno quasi-Newton method that utilizes an adjoint sensitivity method to efficiently compute gradient information. The adjoint equations are derived from the differential form of the full shallow-water equations in one dimension and the ...

Extraction of model parameters for reactive solute transport

In the present study, tried to examine the reactive solute relationships for transport and degradation processes through the rockfill media. By applying the analytical solution of reactive transport, the 1st to 3rd theoretical temporal moments have been extracted then, by using two methods of curve fitting and temporal moment matching, the coefficients of dispersion and degradation have been ex...
